Four by Four
If you open my box you'll find,
An abundance of Rain soaked letters
And heartfelt goodbyes,
Chocolate wrappers crushed and hidden,
The ribbon you gave me,
And the words I never said to you.
If you open my box you'll find,
An overflow of laughter,
The chits i used to pass to you,
Plane tickets and pictures,
Of the day we parted.
If you open my box you'll find,
A whiff of coffee, and doodles on a napkin,
Half thoughts, whole emotions,
My half of our necklace.
If you open my box you'll find,
Memories of you, of everyone,
Everyone i've ever spoken to,
And to anyone who opens my box,
I hope you find a piece of you.

I wake up, it's still there,
Like a dreaded hangover--
My perpetual crisis,
A skipping record,
Filled with songs I've heard before.
I can hear the screws in my fan turn,
The silence is loud,
I listen to the creaking of the floorboard,
As I make it across my room.
The deafening whispers of my soul,
Like ghosts, haunting me, taunting me.
But i cannot listen to them,
There is a buzzing noise,
Grainy static, it loops in my head,
An addiction; for without it I would be alone,
Alone with my thoughts.

I never saw her face,
I never felt her presence,
Yet, somehow, she spoke to me,
In loud whispers
only I would understand.
Poetry filled with answers,
To questions I didn’t ask.
The day we talked
I became complete.
A part of me wishes,
We’d never met.
A part of me
that she returned.
